Octonauts Characters Paper Templates

After creating an elaborate banner for my niece’s birthday using these Disney Princess paper templates, it was only fair to make something special for my nephew’s Octonauts themed birthday party. My sister was going all out with sea-themed food so I helped decorate with an Octonauts character banner.

The first step was really immersing myself in the world of Octonauts to find out who were the main characters. The few that popped up the most were Peso the penguin, Captain Barnacles the polar bear and Lieutenant Kwazii the cat (pirate). I intended to make these few characters only which I was going to repeat a few times for a short hanging banner, but once I got started I knew I wouldn’t be satisfied with only three. I imagined my 2 year old nephew examining the banner and asking for Shellington or Tweak in disappointment. That couldn’t happen – the full Octonauts cast would have to be represented.

Small details were sacrificed to create simplified, yet recognizable versions of Peso, Dr. Shellington, Capt. Barnacles, Professor Inkles, Tunip, Tweak, Sauci and Lt. Kwazii. I also added an octopus / logo shape to round out the finished banner. All pieces layer on top of the “head” piece except the collars which attach behind.

The templates work as a set to create all 8 characters from 12 different colors of card stock. I used 65 pound but any medium weight card stock will do! You will need 12 colors to create all the characters: black, light brown, brown, pink, light green, green, light orange, orange, dark orange, white, light turquoise and dark turquoise. You can also print just the colors for individual characters, but since each character uses several colors you will have a lot of scraps left over!

Each button below links to a zip file with high quality PDF’s scaled for 8.5 x 11 inch paper. All pieces are labeled with the names for easy construction (Kwazii’s hat, Peso’s eyes, etc). Designs print in reverse (no lines!) on standard, 8.5 x 11 inch paper. Once all the shapes are cut, a glue stick works well to attach everything.

How To Use Your Octonauts Paper Templates

Octonauts Party Ideas:

  • Add all characters to a piece of lightweight string for an elaborate birthday banner. Hang it out of reach so you can up-cycle it into bedroom decor afterwards!
  • Print and cut out pieces to put together as a fun party activity.
  • Add each character to the back of a chair as a fun decoration.
  • Attach each character to any kind of stand with written labels for party snacks.

There’s no wrong way to use a paper Octonauts cutout! Enjoy!
